No one is going to save you. And that is the good news.

Mateusz Pietrow 0 0

No one saved you. There were people who pointed at the road — that was all they could do. The rest was always yours.

You have a spirit inside you. It is sealed, and it is waiting. Not until tomorrow, not until next week — until now. If you do not set it free, it dies with you.

I cannot say it any simpler than that.

Who this is for

You. You can be black, white, brown, in robes or in work trousers. You can be in a wheelchair, deaf, blind. The spirit is the same, and in you it is locked up too.

To them you are nobody. To me you are priceless.

You do not have to believe anything to start. You only have to stop, for one moment, doing what you do every single day.

You have already seen this. You just did not stop.

You watched The Matrix. You watched Harry Potter. Maybe Dragon Ball.

And what is left of it? Quotes. People memorise lines, repeat them at parties, post them under photos — and move on.

Nobody stops. Nobody asks what it was actually about.

Voldemort is not a man without a nose. Voldemort is everyone who believed in printed green paper and can no longer believe in anything else. The red pill is not a scene from a film — it is a decision you either make today or never make at all.

You watched. You did not interpret. That is the problem — not lack of access to knowledge. The knowledge is lying everywhere. Nobody reads it for themselves.

Switch it off. For a moment.

The television. The phone. The voice telling you how you should feel.

Stop. Not for an hour — for one minute. You will notice that for that minute nobody is watching you and nobody wants anything from you.

The sounds you hear every day are tuned so that you cannot hear your own. That is the first thing to take back: the silence in which you think your own thoughts, not somebody else's.

Who does your exhaustion serve

Think about it honestly.

You squeeze the last drops of sweat out of yourself so that somebody else can count zeros in an account. You come home so burnt out that you have nothing left for your own life. In the morning you get up and do it again.

Nobody is telling you to quit your job. I did not quit mine. But you can come back to a state where the work does not eat you — where you walk into the same warehouse and walk out of it a whole human being.

That can be taken back. I am doing it myself.

What this does not cure — and what it can reach

I will say it straight, because I do not want to lie to you.

Cancer, diabetes, heart disease — that is a doctor's work. If you take medication, keep taking it. There is no miracle water that replaces insulin. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying and putting your life at risk.

But there is a second group of things. Years slept through in anger nobody ever named. Outbursts you cannot explain afterwards. A head that will not switch off. A sex drive turned up so high that you stop seeing a person and see only a body. A sense that something is wrong, running since childhood — and nobody ever even asked.

People live with this for years. They do not get treated, because they do not know they are ill. They lie down to sleep and wait for the next life.

This is where cold water, salt and breath make a difference. Not because they are magic. Because for the first time they give you a moment in which you feel your own body and see what is happening inside it.

I had ADHD and a sex drive multiplied by a thousand. I wanted to tell every woman she was beautiful and take her to bed straight after. Today I am sitting here writing this instead of watching naked bodies on a screen.

That is not a miracle. That is the difference cold water and salt make.

About Eve, and what they called sin

They say Eve carries the sin. She does. Only it is not a woman's sin.

It is desire — yours. The mechanism that makes you look at a human being as a thing to be won. That is what leads to wars, to feeling worthless, to the pain of thinking your life did not work out.

What do you need a million-pound car for, when she looks at you differently than you imagine anyway? Why hurt anyone to prove you are somebody?

It is all written down in scripture. I am not inventing anything new. I am only writing in the language I use every day at work — because nobody reads the other one any more.

Where to start: water

Start with the shower. But use your head.

Set the water to whatever your body likes. Warm, pleasant. Stand in it. Then go down gradually — not in one jump, not by force. Slowly, until you reach the temperature where the body wakes up.

You will know the moment. The breath shortens, then deepens on its own.

Do it every day. What you are learning is how to stay with discomfort instead of running from it — and that is the whole practice, in one sentence.

Salt

Rock salt. Not the stuff in a bag for two pounds.

Somebody told you salt makes you retain water. Did anyone ever tell you that tears are salty? That sweat is salty? That the body gives it away and has to take it back from somewhere?

Our ancestors mixed water, honey and salt. They drank it morning and evening. They knew something we have forgotten.

Take honey from a beekeeper, not a supermarket — though honest jars turn up there too. You have to look.

The forest

You can do it at home too. But the forest is something else.

On grass you are still in a garden. In the forest your foot lands on a pine cone, a root, a stone — and you stop thinking, because you have to watch your step. Feet gone numb from shoes come back to life.

You do not take a mat into the forest.

Before you go in — a salt bath. The skin is then a less appealing meal for everything that flies and bites.

Why fighting alone at home is not enough

Because at home there is nobody to test you.

The real things only switch on next to another human being. Resentment. Shame. Envy. Humiliation. Disgust. All of it sleeps while you are alone and wakes up the second somebody walks into the room.

And one more thing, harder than the rest: what you loaded onto yourself years ago and still carry. You were dying with it piece by piece — along with the spirit that does not leave precisely because of you.

That is why you have to walk out of the house.

Karma is not the illness

Karma is the stupidity in how you approach it.

Pulling hairs out of your nose will not get rid of the hairs. But for a moment you will feel relief. Maybe that is the point — not to defeat the illness, but to learn to live with it and not let it win.

Those are two different things. People confuse them for a lifetime.

The body remembers more than you think

I had ADHD, and for years I could not do things on a trampoline that children do without thinking. The body would not listen. The head went one way, the legs another.

Recently I was jumping with my son. I did all of it — front flips, back flips, the things an eighteen-year-old gymnast does at competitions.

I am almost forty.

It did not come back because I trained acrobatics. It came back because the body stopped being a place I avoided. Cold water, salt, breath — and at some point it turns out everything is still in there.

If you did flips as a child, your body remembers. It did not disappear. It was only buried under years of sitting, stress and running from yourself.

Even past sixty you can stand on your hands. The question is whether you will give your body the chance to show what it still knows.

One rule

Do not start at step three.

If you skip the beginning, you will only end up tired and disappointed, and you will say it does not work. You will be right — because it will not.

Step one is step one for a reason.

The deal

If you go through this with me and show it to one other person — I will quit smoking.

You have my word.

Not because I am better than you. Because I need a reason myself, and a promise made to somebody else holds better than a promise made to yourself.

We will be free together or not at all.

This text does not replace medical treatment. If you are ill and taking medication — keep taking it and talk to your doctor. Cold water, salt and breath are what you do alongside, not instead.
