What is meditation?
Lesson two: you are the antenna
You do not need to be a guru
Forget everything they showed you. Candles, incense, strange positions, a cushion for fifty pounds, an app with a subscription.
For meditation you need three things: bare feet, a piece of ground, and your own imagination.
That is all. The rest is somebody selling you something.
Meditation is training for the mind and the body. It is the fight with your own demons — the ones that have been sitting inside you since birth, the ones I wrote about in the first lesson. It is also quieting down whatever will not leave your head alone.
Read this twice. The second time you will see something that was not there the first time.
Goku, Neo and Bruce Lee had one thing in common
Think about them for a moment.
Son Goku. Neo from The Matrix. Bruce Lee.
None of them became the best fighter because somebody handed them power as a gift. They became it because they trained three things at once: the head, the body and the breath.
And they could do one more thing — focus on a single star so hard that the star lit up an entire planet.
That star shines in the colours of the rainbow. And at the end of a rainbow, as everybody knows, there is a pot of gold.
So the question from the first lesson comes back:
Do you want to be a star on earth, or a star in the sky?
You are the antenna
Now the most important thing in this lesson. Do it today, not tomorrow.
Take your shoes off. Stand on the ground — grass, sand, stone, anything, as long as it is not concrete through a sole.
And now think like this:
For millions of years the sun poured its energy into this earth. It is lying there. Under your feet. Nobody took it away.
You are the antenna. You pull it up through your feet.
It goes up — through your legs, through your lower back, up your spine, higher and higher.
Then you raise your arms above your head. Head up, face to the sky.
And it fires out through your fingers.
That is all of it. You need nothing else and nobody has to teach you this for money.
If you watched Dragon Ball as a kid — this is a genkidama in reverse. Goku gathered energy from the whole universe and held it above his head. You gather it from the ground under your feet and send it into the sky. Same thing, other direction.
You live in a block of flats with nowhere to stand? The strip of grass behind your building is enough. A balcony. A park once a week. Do not wait for the perfect place, because it is not coming — and your foot touches the ground the same way everywhere.
Salt you dive into
In the first lesson I wrote about rock salt. Now we go further.
A bath with real salt is not a bath. It is a gate.
You put rock salt in — not the one from a box with a nice label, the real one. Add a handful of bee pollen. Those two together do something in water that neither of them does alone.
And now the thing almost nobody mentions: put your face under and open your eyes.
It stings. I know. But this is the step most people skip — and that is why it does not work for them.
I do it this way and I am only telling you what I see in myself. I am not a doctor and I do not pretend to be one.
Kogel-mogel — a breakfast that makes sense
A simple recipe I make every morning. (Kogel-mogel is an old Polish thing — whipped egg yolk. Your grandmother would know it.)
You take:
- one egg yolk
- a spoon of bee honey (from a beekeeper, not a supermarket)
- a teaspoon of salt — Himalayan or Dead Sea
- (optional) a spoon of bitter cocoa — the kind with one ingredient, not a "cocoa drink"
Whisk it, by hand or with a mixer, until it turns into a fluffy cream. Eat it right after you get up.
With it, coffee or tea with a pinch of salt and honey instead of sugar.
Do not be like the others. Be a better version of yourself.
Why sugar is a trap
Look at it from the kitchen side, the same way we looked at salt.
God made the earth and the sky, the bees and the people. And at the end came machines — and people who want to use them to turn you into someone who does not think for himself.
How do they do it? Simple. They add sugar.
You feel lifted for an hour, maybe two. Then you drop. And you run back to the shop for the same thing. And on the way you ruin your eyes, your body and your nerves.
That is not an accident. It is designed that way.
You will ask: so where am I supposed to buy anything? Should I become a monk and live on air?
I went through the same thing. Honestly? I buy from a farmer, not from a supermarket. Sometimes I take something off a shelf, but carefully and with suspicion. I trusted them too much once to ever do that again.
You want to know what happened.
They wrecked my body so badly that heavy sores came out on my skin — the kind I could not heal for several years.
I beat them standing on the ground with a bare foot. No shoes.
If you eat, you also empty out
Nobody writes about this because the subject is not elegant. But if we are talking about the body, let us talk honestly.
You know how it goes: alarm, coffee, toilet, shower, clothes, jump on the horse and race to work. The boss is pushing you or you are pushing yourself so you are not late. Every day the same.
And digestion happens in three places: the stomach, the small intestine, the large intestine. Each one has its own job to do.
When you stuff your stomach full, you create pressure inside. The body does not fire up everything it should. Something stays unfinished, something sits there.
Water with sea salt in the morning and sucking on pine cones help it move.
I eat pine cones almost every day — for my body that is honey. They grow for free, in the woods behind your block, and nobody ever told you about them. That is the magic bean you have been walking past for years.
Go and see for yourself. A pine looks different in spring, different in summer, different in winter — and every time it gives you something. Do not look it up on the internet, go outside and touch it. Walking into the woods is already a win, even if you come back empty-handed.
What meditation did to me
Now about me. This is the part that is hardest to write, because I have to go back to things I would rather forget.
ADHD. A head like a radio with somebody constantly switching stations.
Eyes on the floor. I was afraid to look people in the eye. Next to a woman my eyes dropped to my shoes on their own. Thank God there was the internet — I could open an app and look at somebody's profile instead of looking at a face.
And alcohol. For twenty-five years I believed I could not be around people without it.
I found out that was not true. Recently. At a wedding.
I danced with a smile on my face. Sober. It made no difference what time it was or how many people were on the floor.
That is when I understood that for a quarter of a century I had been drinking something I never needed. It was only a state of mind.
I was also addicted to sex for years. Today I feel newborn. Parties do not interest me, naked girls do not interest me, sites full of pretty faces do not interest me, and neither does constantly taking care of myself.
I have been meditating for a year. The ADHD only slowed down after three months. It did not disappear — and it will not disappear at the wave of a wand. But I learned to hold it down with my own strength.
That is when you feel like the master of your own body.
What it actually helps with
I will be honest with you, because promising pears on a willow tree is not my job.
What I see in myself, and what studies back up:
- more energy, less tension inside
- a calmer head and a better mood
- better memory and longer focus
- better sleep
- lower blood pressure and less stress in the body
- more confidence and easier contact with people
- resistance to manipulation — you stop swallowing whatever they feed you
And now the thing you have to understand exactly, because people get it wrong in both directions.
Meditation does not cure. But it muffles — and that is something else entirely.
There is a list of conditions people reach for meditation with: depression, anxiety, insomnia, ADHD, eating disorders, addictions, neurosis, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, chronic pain. And the heavy ones, where medical care is involved — schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, neurological illness.
In none of them is meditation a cure. In every one of them it can be support.
Because it does not remove the illness — it turns it down. It lowers the volume. What was shouting starts to whisper. And suddenly there is room to live next to it, instead of only fighting it.
Second thing: meditation makes therapy work better. A calmer person works better with a therapist, because he finally hears what is being said to him. He takes his medication more regularly. He sleeps, so he has strength. Doctors know this, which is why more and more of them recommend it alongside treatment.
So remember this: if you are ill and taking medication — keep taking it and talk to your doctor. What I describe here is what you do alongside, never instead. Anyone telling you to drop your pills and meditate is lying and will do you harm.
Meditation is training. A gym will not knit a broken leg back together, but it will strengthen the rest of your body so much that you recover faster and come back stronger. It works the same way here.
For me it looked like this: the ADHD did not go away. But it slowed down after three months, and today I can hold it with my own strength. I did not cure myself. I muffled it.
Let me tell you one more thing. When I said NO to everything going on around me — and rejected the direction they programmed into me — my memory got such a kick that today I know more about meditation than most people I know.
Is that a good thing? I do not know. But I can show you how to control your breath and how to fix your posture.
Only remember one thing: this has to come from you. I will not do it for you — I would like to, but that is not how it works.
Check it yourself and see. And if one of these lessons does not help you — nobody is keeping you here by force. The road is open.
Before you forget what this was about
Meditation gives you one more thing almost nobody talks about: you get to know yourself.
Were you ever sad and could not say why? Something sitting inside, with no name on it?
That is exactly what this is for. The head clears itself of thoughts and feelings that already did their job and are only taking up space. What is left is balance — and suddenly you know what was eating you.
Your task for today
Three things. All free. All doable today.
1. Take your shoes off and stand on the ground. Feel yourself pulling the energy up through your feet. Arms up, head up — and let it out through your fingers. One minute is enough.
2. Tomorrow morning make yourself the kogel-mogel. Yolk, honey, a pinch of salt. Instead of the usual.
3. Say NO to one thing you know is wrecking you. One. Today.
Do those three and you have something you did not have yesterday: your own result. Not mine. Not theirs. Yours.
In the next lesson I will show you exactly how to meditate. Step by step, no dressing it up — the breath, the posture, and what to do with your head when it will not settle.
Fight. Do not give up. I am always rooting for the ones who fight.
This text does not replace medical treatment. Meditation does not cure illness — it muffles it and supports the treatment you are getting from your doctor. If you are taking medication, keep taking it and talk to your doctor. Salt, ground under your feet and breath are things you do alongside, never instead.
